WHAT IS TRAUMA?

Healing is possible

Trauma isn't a specific event that happens at a certain time in one's life. Trauma is the emotional response one has to a disturbing event, and it impacts everyone differently. Trauma is linked to a variety of mental health issues and can have a lasting negative impact on your overall health and wellness.

Trauma can be caused by many different things, such as:

  • Domestic violence or sexual assault

  • Childhood abuse or neglect

  • Major physical injury (such as a car accident)

  • Loss of close family members and friends

  • Experiencing a natural disaster

  • Being involved in combat

  • Divorce

Are you tired of struggling with depression, anxiety, relationships, and feeling as though you have no purpose? Do you find that you're using substances, food, or risky behaviors to cope? Are you ready to dig deep, heal from the trauma, discover yourself, and live authentically?

I help you reconnect with your wisdom and insight so that you experience radical acceptance of your truth. With time your self-esteem will increase and your ability to advocate for yourself will come naturally. Ultimately, you'll develop healthy connections and find genuine purpose.

Relationship Issues:

  • Are you often overwhelmed with emotion and anxiety?

  • Maybe you don't trust easily, or at all?

  • Do you struggle with feelings of jealousy?

  • A desire to "check-up" on your partner to the point you feel out of control?

  • Starting arguments for no reason?

Poor Self-Esteem:

  • Do you believe you are fundamentally worthless?

  • Do you feel broken beyond repair?

  • Have you questioned whether or not you really deserve to be loved?

  • Want to set goals but don't even bother because you "just know" you'll fail?

Dissociation or Memory Lapse:

  • Do you have nightmares but are unable to remember what they were about, only how they made you feel?

  • Is there a part of your past that you're unable to remember? Up to a certain age? A specific grade in school?

  • Emotional flashbacks? Unlike actual memories, these are overwhelming emotions that feel disturbing yet familiar.

  • Do you sometimes feel as though you're watching yourself and not inside your own body?

Avoidance Behaviors/Emotional Dysregulation:

  • Addiction to alcohol or substances?

  • Maladaptive self-soothing; overindulging in exercise, pornography, work, or masturbation?

  • Self-harm? This could include cutting, pulling out hair, burning, or other forms of causing pain to your body.

  • Challenging relationship with food? Eating too much? Not enough? (Note: I do not treat eating disorders as a stand-alone issue)

Somatic Symptoms:

  • Do you experience unexplainable chronic pain?

  • Has a medical professional dismissed your pain or said they're unable to find a cause?

  • Have you been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)?

**Note: Chronic pain is very real and not always associated with trauma. I do not treat individuals who are only experiencing symptoms of pain as those are best addressed by medical professionals.
